Quick And Dirty Belgrade Post With Spotty Internet Access (Serbia)

Hello From Belgrade!! Topic of Day One: Jet lag!! It wore off, but Day One was a trip!

Followed closely by (for Brenna):  Turkish Coffee!!!  Brenna is learning at the elbow of a master (our hostess Vukosava) how to make a cup as good as this one.

Belgrade with our friends is such a good way

to start our trip. The city is alive and busy and has a real cosmopolitan, yet gritty, feel. With Darinka's guidance we navigated the city like little lambs. Thank heaven for her. We walked to a little local market area for breakfast in the morning, bought peaches and pears and fresh pastries with Feta and meat inside.

Tris Sesira (Three Hats) RestaurantBy nightfall we were in Old Town for dinner at one of Darinka's favorite restaurants, eating chivopchichi and drinking Gorki List. The musicians came over, and we pulled out the video camera -- take a look and listen.

That looks like it was a 2 to 1 ratio of diners to musicians. We miss you. More posts please...

It's good to see you all arrived safe and sound - and found a band and a drink! (always a good way to christen a city) The place looks charming! I'm glad you have contacts there to help in your "breaking in" period.

Tell Owen I hope he finds some good grub and shuteye (that's cowboy talk for food and sleep) Looks as if Ella has already found a friend - Hugs to all ... we love you!

So jealous - even the jet lag looks fun in such a charming city! I've always wanted to visit Belgrade and am so living vicariously through you. And the bemused, uncertain looks on B & B's faces in the video as the strolling minstrels converge ... PRICELESS!! Love you guys and can't wait for the next installment(s).

It's one of the most beautiful love songs, He Who Has You Doesn't Have You, crude translation of video verse:

Shadow of life that like Danube flows
can not be caught
because life is both light and darkness
sometimes morning sometimes evening
Because life is both light and darkness
to somebody morning to somebody evening

verse:
He who has you doesn’t have you
he who doesn’t have you dreams of you
he who dreams of you loves you
and you have no idea about it
...
